Many people have allergies and chemical sensitivities. I want to ensure each patient has the best possible experience, so here is a list of what I use in my practice and what I’m willing to do to accommodate a patient upon request:
I use only All Free & Clear laundry detergent with no fabric softeners or dryer sheets for ALL my laundry including patient sheets. Sheets for patients are washed and dried separate from any other laundry.
You are welcome to keep a set of your own sheets that you can provide for appointments. My table takes one twin-flat and one twin-fitted. You’ll also need a pillow case.
My massage lotion has the following ingredients (source: company website at http://www.soothingtouch.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Unscented-Jojoba-Lotion MSDS Sheet):
Filtered Water, Cetyl Alcohol, TEA Stearate, Propylene Glycol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Arnica Montana (Arnica) Flower Extract, Piper Methysticum (Kava Kava) Extract, Valeriana Officinalis (Valerian) Root Extract, Hypericum Perforatum (St. John’s Wort) Extract, Organic Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) Gel, Octyl Palmitate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Allantoin, Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearic Acid, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben.
I will use specific lotions for patients based on their preferences. I personally cannot use any massage lotion or oil that has peanut or cucumber products. Other than that I’m happy to use a certified organic or vegan lotion if you so request. I purchase this for regular patients, new patients can provide their own for about $10.
Perfumes and Colognes:
I cannot control whether patients wear perfumes or colognes, though I do request that they avoid applying it prior to their appointment. I also cannot control if they choose to smoke just before the appointment. I do try to avoid housecalls to smoking homes so my equipment does not pick up the odor and so that my own sensitivities are not triggered.
I personally do not wear any fragranced products, other than my evening organic Yonka skin care products which do have a mild smell that usually fades by morning.
If you have a strong sensitivity you are welcome to keep a set of your own sheets to ensure they are not used by anyone but you.
It’s important to know that I have two cats and a dog. I also volunteer with horses. While they obviously won’t be coming with me to your appointment, patients with life-threatening dander allergies should be aware that there’s a potential for travelling allergens on my clothes.
I’m personally allergic to peanuts and so avoid them entirely.
If I have not addressed any concerns you may have, please contact me to discuss the nature and severity of your allergy at 941-321-5311.
