Lakewood Ranch Medical Massage (located in Bradenton, Florida just West of Lakewood Ranch and one exit off 75 North of Sarasota, Florida) is launching summer treats starting May 15, 2017 including massages that include the use of CBD oil.
This is one of several articles on this site about CBD Oil massage.
Q: Why CBD oil?
A: Massage therapy has been shown in clinical study after clinical study to reduce anxiety and depression as well as all the other beneficial effects it has. Mental and emotional functioning are important parts of overall health.
CBD oil, in addition to being suspected as anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and having other physical wellness benefits, also benefits the mind by enhancing the state of calm available (but without psychoactive effects).
Q: Isn’t CBD oil illlegal?
A: Our CBD product (including CBD oil and CBD salve) is derived from HEMP sources, not marijuana. The oil at Lakewood Ranch Medical Massage used during CBD oil massages does NOT have psychoactive effects and is subject to laboratory testing.
Currently (and this may change anytime as legislation at state and federal levels changes) it is legal in all 50 states, including Florida, and is classified as a supplement and not as a controlled substance.
CBD oil from marijuana is allowed for use in massage, but only in states that do not restrict usage of marijuana-related products. CBD oil from marijuana is NOT currently allowed in the state of Florida, nor does Lakewood Ranch Medical Massage use marijuana-derived CBD oil.
Q: How are you, as a licensed massage therapist, allowed to use CBD oil?
A: Our scope of practice in the state of Florida is as follows:
“Massage” means the manipulation of the soft tissues of the human body with the hand, foot, arm, or elbow, whether or not such manipulation is aided by hydrotherapy, including colonic irrigation, or thermal therapy; any electrical or mechanical device; or the application to the human body of a chemical or herbal preparation. CBD oil, like essential oils or topical muscle relief creams, are allowed to be applied by a licensed massage therapist in Bradenton, Florida.
Q: How do you use CBD/cannabinoid oil in your massage therapy practice?
A: Launching May 15, 2017 will be my summer treat: Mad Science Massage. CBD oil/cannabinoid oil will be one of the “alchemical” add-ons that clients can choose to enhance their massage experience.
At the base level of CBD massage add-on the therapist (if demand is great, Lizz Pugh, LMT may hire other therapists to supply clients with evening and weekend mad science massages) will use a blended CBD oil to massage the scalp.
The scalp is the place in the body where applied beneficial oils are more likely to be absorbed by the body. (Not to mention that it’s great for the skin of the scalp as well as the hair itself.) This decadent head massage is part of the process, and also gives the “mad science look” to the client, who hopefully will want to document their experience after their massage while they enjoy a mad science (non alcoholic) beverage.
Oil is also applied directly to small areas of the body where the most pain is experienced. Sellers of CBD oil and salves claim that many people report instant relief.
The upgraded level of CBD massage add-on the therapist applies oil to the scalp and then uses a thicker balm on the areas of pain. This theory is that this may absorb more slowly and provide longer relief over time. The client is then given the remainder of the salve to take home and use! This allows the client to experience the same relief in the comfort and convenience of their own home.
Q: When will these massages be available?
A: During regular business hours at Lakewood Ranch Medical Massage starting May 15, 2017. If demand is high enough a second therapist will be hired to provide Mad Science Massage in the evenings and weekends.
