Why my patients are crying

Why patients have been crying in my massage therapy office.

(And no, it’s not because treatment hurts or I’m mean.)

Chronic pain affects millions of people to varying degrees. Even a small amount of daily pain can wear on you, feel like a huge burden, and make everything you need to do feel ten times harder. (Let’s not even mention what it does to the things you LOVE to do or how hard they become.)

It can be exhausting just to think about your to-do list.

Patients are crying at Lakewood Ranch Medical Massage because they are so damn tired of carrying that burden.

They are exhausted. They are frustrated. They feel helpless. And it all comes out in the pre-massage consultation. (Remember, unlike other massage therapists in the area, I don’t spend a mere 3-5 minutes in consultation with you; we spend almost an hour together before you even get on the table.)

Guess what?

Feeling exhausted, frustrated, and helpless (as well as angry, cranky, sad, depressed) is COMMON among chronic pain sufferers.

And if you don’t have chronic pain, it’s impossible to truly understand how it can chip away at the very core of who you are.
So when a client has chronic pain and no one else in their family or support circle understand, it can feel even lonelier and harder.

Every time you try something new and it doesn’t work, it gets a little worse. Every doctor’s visit, every pill, every PT visit. You feel more and more helpless and more and more trapped by your dysfunctional meat suit.

I have helped hundreds of local clients with their chronic pain. Not only do I help them understand what may be happening, I empower them by giving them the tools they need to carry healing forward in between sessions. Little by little they feel like they are regaining control. Little by little they can get back to doing what they love.

Can I help every single person? No. I’d love to be able to.

Did I help most of the patients I’ve seen over the last 13 years? Yes.

Am I honest about whether or not I think my treatments are helping you? Yes. All I truly care about is that you are getting what you need to feel and function better; if that’s me, great. If it’s not, that’s okay too.
